Research on training in tourism in Italy

Head: Manuela De Carlo

Year 2019

The research, commissioned by the TH Resort group (SolFin and Hotelturst), aims to promote a reflection on the need for innovation and new skills in the hospitality sector and on the consistency between the expectations of businesses and the characteristics of the training offer in tourism at university level in order to identify new paths of collaboration and integration between business and university, with a view to responding effectively to the needs of companies in the sector.

The project includes:

  • an analysis of the offer of training courses in tourism at university level in Italy and the characteristics of the outgoing profiles;
  • an analysis of the need for new knowledge and skills sought today and in the future by companies in the sector through a survey of 200 hotels in Italy conducted in collaboration with Confindustria Alberghi;
  • an analysis of the gap between these needs and the existing training offer;
  • an analysis of the existing forms of business-university collaboration and the value of the "hospitality school" formula as a tool for bridging the current gap.
