The Venerable Ambrosian Library

The Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana was founded on September 7, 1607, by Cardinal Federico Borromeo, who conceived the original idea: to promote human and Christian values through science and culture in the service of the Catholic Church.
The Ambrosiana’s mission is to educate the clergy, religious, and laity, as well as to promote Christian culture and interreligious and intercultural dialogue, pursued in particular through the preservation, conservation, and promotion of its cultural heritage (manuscripts, printed works, works of art, etc.).
