Main areas of scientific interest
Clara Pignataro's scientific research activity was structured around the following themes: simultaneous interpretation from English into Italian in media contexts (2013); the study of translation strategies used in simultaneous interpretation to give coherence and quality to the interpreted text (2012a, 2012e, 2011); special languages and simultaneous interpretation in the English-Italian language combination (2012b, 2012c). As far as special languages are concerned, the focus was on the nominal syntagms with pre-modification (PNP) in the English language in medical-scientific contexts and their translation into simultaneous interpretation in the Italian English directionality.
Recently, she has dedicated herself to the study of translation as an intercultural cross-linguistic mediation in the health field, taking up some data collected during a major study conducted in 2012 (2017; 2012d; 2009). Specifically, the in-depth theme was the three-way management of emotional expressions through translation, within the mediator-medical-patient triad. Currently, she has focused on the study of the English language and globalization, in particular on the phenomenon of the English language as a lingua franca (ELF) (2013, 2015) and the translation issues related to simultaneous and consecutive interpretation from English into Italian and its applications to the teaching of Special Languages, with a work entitled Teaching LSP in ELF contexts in the simultaneous interpreting classroom, presented at the Clavier International Conference, at the University of Bari, November 30-December 2, 2017.
