Beauty is that thing....

The dialogue between Maria Bettetini and Stefano Poggi is based on the assumption, on the one hand, of beauty as an ideal value, while, on the other, the more sensitive and concrete characteristics that make it immediately linked above all to sight or hearing are set out. Bettetini observes the injustice of such a purely sensitive beauty, behind which there are no particular merits, while Poggi tends to emphasize that even scientific investigations rebrand the important role of our sensitivity. External beauty, in any case, is still the beginning of a platonic asceticism towards internal beauty. The analysis of the musical beauty and then of the icons and miniatures finally makes us reflect on the differences between Eastern culture, particularly Muslim, and Western culture, and allows us to expose our prejudices.
