The project

What is a CUT

Numerous university theatres sprang up in Europe after World War II. They were places for socialising and amateur stage practice, but also centres of artistic practice outside the entertainment industry, where cultural horizons and projects were built and new professional skills were forged.

In Italy, between the end of the 1940s and the beginning of the 1960s, the eclectic world of university theatres (CUT) took on an important role in introducing performing arts disciplines to the universities, in connecting the worlds of amateur and professional theatre, and in keeping alive the dialogue between young people and local festivals and cultural events.

In the middle of the '60s and in the following decade, these experiences became protagonists and driving forces of the unprecendented renewal of languages, poetics and theatrical practices, taking root in the territory and in the society, thus bringing the practice of theatre outside the institutional domain.

In the following decades and in more recent times, new university theatres of great interest have arisen, where teachers and the university itself are the promoters of a projectuality expressed more and more autonomously by the students.

IULM CUT intends to focus on the enhancement of the individual, the community and teamwork, aiming at the development of verbal and non-verbal soft skills useful for the educational development of young people, through workshop activities that will be proposed by artists and experts in the field.
