Federica La Manna is Associate Professor of German Literature at the Department of Humanities at the University of Calabria. She obtained her PhD in Language and Literature at the University of Pavia with a thesis entitled: The Body of Melancholy. Theory and formal representations of Melancholy in the German literature of the second half of the eighteenth century (speakers: Prof. Claudio Magris - Prof. Giorgio Cusatelli). She was a research fellow at the Francke Foundation of the University of Halle-Wittenberg. From 2016 to 2019, she was a member of the Board of Directors of the Italian Association of German Studies.
Main research areas:
Literature and Science; Humanities and History of ideas; Literary and Visual Culture; Literary Anthropology; Anthropology and Medicine; Expressionism; Psychoanalysis and Literature; German Colonial Studies; Disabilities Studies. She participates in the scientific committees of reviews, is on the Board of the journal 'Prospero' of the University of Trieste and is a member of numerous national and international German-language associations.
